How proud we are as TTV Stiphout of 'our' Frederique! She just won a silver medal at the Paralympic Games in Tokyo!
Where she previously surprised us with the announcement that she would be going to Tokyo, she surprised everyone by winning silver in the team tournament together with Olympic champion Kelly van Zon.
Earlier, she had already shown in the individual tournament that she had made considerable progress. Even though her opponents were still a bit too strong, she still regularly stole a game. And that while she had not directly qualified for the tournament.
In the team tournament, the key to the final was mainly in the doubles. Together with Kelly, a real challenge, because they had never played doubles together! Both in the first round and the semi-final, the doubles were won. In the semi-final, Frederique certainly did not play badly against Kelly's opponent in her singles final. She lost 1-3, but if she had the 4and game had been won (she narrowly lost it 11-13) the match would already have been over.
In the final it was clear that China was (still) a size too big. But the Chinese can already consider themselvespreparing for 3 years from now, when the Paralympics are in Paris…
Not only behind the table tennis table we could enjoy Frederique. What about her sporty appearance, the personal PR she had set up (nice facebook page, see next to it) and of course the great interview with NOS Studio Sport. It made us all even more proud!
