We at TTV Stiphout are very proud of 'our' Frederique! She just won a silver medal at the Paralympic Games in Tokyo!
While she previously surprised us with the announcement that she could go to Tokyo, she surprised everyone by winning silver in the team tournament, together with Olympic champion Kelly van Zon.
She had previously shown that she had made significant progress in the individual tournament. Even though the opponents were still a bit too strong, she still regularly won a game. And even though she had not qualified directly for the tournament.
In the team tournament, the key to the final lay mainly in the doubles. Quite a task together with Kelly, because they had never played doubles together before! The doubles were won in both the first round and the semi-finals. In the semi-finals, Frederique played well against Kelly's opponent in her singles final. She lost 1-3, but if she got the 4e had won the game (she narrowly lost it 11-13), the match would have already been played.
In the final it was clear that China was (still) a size too big. But the Chinese can certainly imagine themselves as suchMaking plans for 3 years from now, when the Paralympics are in Paris...
We could not only enjoy Frederique behind the table tennis table. What to think of her sporty appearance, the personal PR she had set up (nice Facebook page, see opposite) and of course the great interview with NOS Studio Sport. It made us all even more proud!
