On Sunday, January 7, it happened again. The most prestigious tournament of the year was on the program. It was time again for the Oliebollen tournament! There was great enthusiasm and with 50 participants (again a very big record) we started looking for who would be Lex's successor.
It was very nice to see that at this event youth (some gained their very first tournament experience), seniors, competition players, Wednesday/Thursday morning players were represented and everyone could play against everyone.
The tournament started around 1:00 PM, with the exception of Bilal, everyone was right on time, with the first of an eventual 125 matches. This year Renée and Peter were allowed to kick off the tournament (5-11, 6-11). All participants were well taken care of between the competitions! Walter had the bar perfect
check. The delicious oliebollen were baked by Carla. On behalf of the organization and all participants, thank you very much! We enjoyed it!
Back to the sporting part. Many beautiful and sporty matches were played full of excitement and real crackers. For example, Jan van de Meulenhof and Jean-Louis think 11-8 is simply the perfect game result (11-8, 8-11, 8,11). Carlo and Tomislav kept it exciting until the end (7-11, 14-11, 12-10), Willem and Renée also needed extra time in the 3rd game (11-7, 4-11, 10-12). Lex managed to beat Arthur thanks to the support of his family and his fitness. (15-13, 13-11, 4-11). However, there was nothing wrong with Ton's condition today, he managed to beat Marieke in the 5th match of the tournament. (11-8, 11-9).
After all 125 matches had been played, it turned out that exactly 1 player had managed to win all his matches. This was Kasim (final against Patrick from TV), who was later honored as the tournament winner. Now quickly on to the most important thing.
Who oh who can add the most prestigious title of TTV Stiphout to their list of achievements? This year we were looking for the most generous player. Who gives his opponent the most and therefore the most points? Jan van Melick finished in 3rd place, which awarded 120 points to his opponent. The 2nd place went to Ely with 124 points awarded to its opponents. Now the number 1. We have a suspicion that she really played for this. That game against Toine (16-18) and the match against Mieke (10-12, 11-8, 12-10) certainly stand out. But nothing too bad, well deserved. The new oliebol from
the year is: Yvette!!! (Read more about our proud oliebol of 2024 below)

A piece of our proud oliebol 2024
I remember well that I was hesitating whether to register for the oliebollen tournament... Because yes, it is fun (thank you to the organization!), the oliebollen are always delicious (made with love by Carla) and the 'generale' for the new competition season is very important to do.
Unfortunately, the previous season did not go very well. Our team has been relegated and we now have to make it happen in the 7th division. But with this team I'm sure this will be our season and we won't end up in the bottom regions! So with a pep talk under my belt, I gave up.
This year it was decided to honor the most social player (the one who gave the most points to the opponent). If I had known this, I would not have made my first match against Toine (16-18 loss) so exciting. Anyway, I still feel honored to win the title with this line of thought.
For anyone who would like to know how I managed to get THE title of 'Oliebol of the Year', here are some tips:
- Train as little as possible, actually just don't train. Not because you don't like it, but because your private life is just too busy.
- Play on maximum 30% of your ability. I wanted to say that I did, but I really gave the 80% the full power.
- Do not drink alcohol on the day itself. I didn't manage to win 2 games.
- And of course, most importantly, enjoy the day and eat lots of oliebollen!
