On Saturday 14 January the club championships for our youth members were played. Where last year we only had 5 participants who were added to the senior tournament, this year there were 10. There could be many more. We expect that to be the case next year.
They started in 3 groups, 2 of 3 and 1 of 4. The winners went to the final group, as well as the number 2 from the group of 4. Our youth showed such good play! The players who have only recently joined have already shown that they have learned a lot! But our older youth players also put balls on the table that many people think I would like to do myself. What was especially striking was that it took place in a very nice, sporty atmosphere.
Liang, Loek, Max and Ryan played in the final group (4-round). They were often very exciting matches of a high level. In the consolation rounds (2 groups of 3, followed by placement matches) there were also many exciting matches. Many parents and relatives showed their interest and despite 10 participants it was still pleasantly busy in Stiphouse.
When the last games were played, we were able to draw up the final score. It was somewhat surprising that Ryan Sanders could be congratulated as Club Youth Champion. He is not the player with the highest rating of the participants, but he did show focus on the good moments and sometimes rose above himself in terms of game. Kudos to Ryan for this great achievement. His name is immortalized on the board with all club champions that hangs in the cafeteria. All 10 participants have qualified for the Top-12 which will be played shortly after the summer holidays. The Top-12 is a fun tournament, combined with the Top-12 for the senior members.
